With less than a week before the revelry of Mashramani, work at the various “Mash camps” is intensifying to complete costumes and floats in time.
Down at STVS Channel 21/72, home of entertainment group Hits and Jams, designer Olympia Small-Sonaram is racing against time to complete her 400 costumes.
She is designing 200 costumes each for the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) and construction giant BK international. Revelers dressed in the costume of the two companies will be part of the Hits and Jams band, which managed to rope in the two sponsors at the last minute.
The costumes will be given out by the two companies through various promotions.
For the construction firm, Olympia is designing costumes resembling construction outfits. So expect to see the guys in neon-coloured tops bearing tools used in construction.
For GT&T, Olympia is designing costumes in the company’s signature colours of yellow and blue, and is adding in some silver for effect. The female revelers will be taking to the streets in shimmering miniskirts.
Olympia has already warned that she is trying to make the designs as modest as possible, not allowing the costumes to be as revealing as those used in Trinidad’s carnival.
