N/A double murder
SMYTHFIELD, NEW AMSTERDAM – Seven persons remain in police custody as detectives in Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force continue to probe the murder of the two Smythfield women on Sunday.
The persons were all detained between Sunday and Monday.
A source close to the investigation said yesterday that these persons are all from New Amsterdam and are being questioned. The prime suspect is an overseas-based Guyanese who became known after he was charged for the 2004 murder of his wife.
On Sunday morning just before 07:00 hours a resident of Smythfield in New Amsterdam discovered the body of 18-year-old Alexis Keshia George (not Charles as previously stated) in her yard at Smythfield.
The resident raised an alarm, and moments later the body of 25-year old Nekecia Rouse, called ‘Nicky’, was found just a few doors away from where both women lived.
Nekecia Rouse and her daughter lived with her mother June Joseph .
Alexis Keshia George, though she is also from Smythfield, lived with Nekecia Rouse’s family, since she is said to be the girlfriend of Nekecia Rouse’s brother, who is said to be living in Trinidad, and has a one-year-old child, Delcie, with him .
Both bodies were covered with blood. Alexis Keshia George sustained wounds to the left side of the neck, the left hand and left foot. The body of Nekecia Rouse had wounds on the left side of the neck, left ear and the right shoulder.
An autopsy was performed on both bodies on Monday, and the findings revealed that death was as a result of shock and hemorrhage due to stab wounds.
The source further indicated that, though the murder weapon has not yet been recovered, it is clear that a sharp object had been used.
Meanwhile, June Joseph, the mother of Nekecia Rouse, said that many persons are speculating, “and all kind of thing they saying but not everything is true. I can’t say what really caused this.”
She could not determine the point the killer used to enter the home, but did not rule out the possibility of a glass verandah door to the front of the house. “It did open when I come but me ain’t even sure. Me four-year-old grand-daughter was walking in the house and on the verandah when I come yesterday (Sunday). People saying that the person come through the verandah door but me ain’t sure. But I know the lil girl couldn’t open the door; she can’t open it and it was open when I come home.”
Joseph arrived at the scene of the crime a short while after the discovery and was among the first to enter the home the day the incident took place, pointing out: “Is I open the door.”
On the eve of her death, Valentine’s night, Nekecia Rouse along with friends was out at a party. Some say she arrived home just after 04:00 hours.
At the moment detectives are working on a number of leads all gathered during the process of the investigation. A police source said that they are trying to put together the pieces from when Nekecia Rouse arrived home at about 03:45 hours to the time of her demise.
June Rouse received a call on her mobile phone from 688-6430 at 05:20 hours on Sunday. “I ain’t recognize the voice, but the person just ask where Nicky deh and ask me if me ain’t going to be with she? Me ain’t know is who.”
Yesterday, the police source indicated that they are still in the process of trying to ascertain in whose name the telephone is registered.
According to the source, the double murder cannot be labelled a crime of passion until the police get to the bottom of it. The source is optimistic that it is only a matter of time before detectives crack the case.
This sort of tragedy is said to be the first of its kind for Division ‘B’ of the Guyana Police Force for the year 2009.
