An attractive even half century from skipper and Berbice under-19 player Eon Hooper led Rose Hall Town Pepsi ‘A’ to a crushing 9 wicket victory over Rose Hall Town Pepsi ‘B’ at the Area ‘H’ ground when play continued on Saturday in the Gilgeous Pawn Shop 10th Anniversary twenty20 tournament.
Batting first after winning the toss the ‘B’ team consisting mainly of under-15 players were restricted to 79-8 off their allotted 20 overs, Jamal Brusche top scored with 17. Bowling for the ‘A’ team, Terrence Madramootoo 2-8 and Naresh Mahadeo took 2-12.
In reply RHT Pepsi ‘A’ coasted to 80-1 in 16.2 overs with Hooper striking an unbeaten on 50 decorated with 4 fours, national under 15 batsman Dominic Rickey was undefeated on 12.
Over at Cumberland, Bermine arrested Police by 26 runs. Bermine reached 109-6 off their overs. Steve DeFreitas 21 and Trinity Abensette 17 were the main contributors. Bowling for Police, Rodwell Grant and Michael Sampson took 2 each for 11 and 16 runs respectively.
In response, Police struggled to 83-9 with Ravi Ramkumar hitting 19 and Michael Sampson 14.
Bermine were brilliant in the field as they defended their meager score admirably. Mark Jackman 2-1, Andel De Younge 2-13 and Trellon Carmicheal 2-14 combined to restrict the Lawmen.
The tournament continues today with round two matches. Bermine will clash with Rose Hall Canje at the Canje ground, RHT Pepsi ‘A’ meet Blairmont at Rose Hall Town, while Scotsburg will travel to Bush Lot Farm to play Kildonan.
The winner of the RHT Pepsi and Blairmont match up will advance to the final while the other 2 winners will face off in the lone semi finals at the Canje Ground next Wednesday.
