The Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) is without any security as the guards have struck as a result of non-payments of wages.
Yesterday, when Kaieteur News visited the Turkeyen campus, the security guards were outside.
They told this newspaper that they were protesting two issues, one being the non-payment of their National Insurance Scheme contributions and the non-payment of salaries.
Speaking with this newspaper, one security said that they are still awaiting their December salaries.
“We get half we salary. Every month is the same thing. They tell we that we have to wait and this can’t wuk because we got children to maintain.”
Another said that they formed a delegation and investigated whether or not their NIS contributions were being paid.
According to the guard, there are no records of such payments at the NIS office despite sums being deducted from their salaries for that purpose.
The guards said that they were assured on numerous occasions that they will be paid but when the date reaches they are left to wait.
This newspaper was unable to contact the United Associate Domestic Service office, as the numbers kept ringing out.
When this newspaper contacted the Administration Office at CPCE, the person who answered the phone said that no one was available for a comment.
