Commerce Minister, Manniram Prashad yesterday met with manager of SOL, Ken Figaro, to discuss concerns of members of the Guyana Petrol Station Dealers Association.
At the meeting, Figaro promised to address the concerns of the members of the Guyana Petrol Station Dealers Association, as it relates to their new contracts, which SOL will issue shortly. SOL is the new owner of ESSO and SHELL.
On the kerosene issue, Figaro said that SOL purchased kerosene at an exorbitant price when there were increases in prices on the world market.
However, when the prices were reduced, SOL was still left with a significant volume of kerosene.
According to Figaro, the company is currently reviewing the price for which it is selling kerosene with the aim of reducing the cost.
Minister Prashad maintains that consumers are unhappy with the kerosene prices at SOL pumps and urged Figaro to take swift action in addressing the disparity in prices in the interest of consumers.
Kerosene is being sold at SOL stations at $1,205 per gallon and at GUYOIL for $472 per gallon.
The Minister also said that he is dissatisfied with the price of gasoline being sold at SOL stations.
SOL stations are selling gasoline for $620.55 per gallon while GUYOIL is selling for $549 per gallon.
Figaro assured Minister Prashad that a new shipment of gasoline is scheduled to arrive shortly and prices would be adjusted accordingly.
