Justice of Appeal, Senior Counsel Charles Ramson snr., was yesterday sworn in as the new Attorney-General of Guyana, replacing long serving Senior Counsel Doodnauth Singh, who recently retired.
Justice Ramson, who had formerly served in that office, told the media yesterday, after taking his oath of office, that he took the position in the name of serving his country.
“Whenever you are called to serve your country, you need to respond positively. I did so as Appellate Tribunal member; I did it as Attorney-General before; I did it as a member of the Disciplined Forces Commission, and now I’m back again,” Justice Ramson stated.
When asked what will be his first priorities, Justice Ramson said that everything was sprung on him suddenly, and that he would address that soon.
Justice Ramson took the oath of office at the Office of the President yesterday afternoon in the presence of President Jagdeo, his family and several other representatives of judicial entities.
His appointment as the Attorney-General now leaves a vacancy at the Court of Appeal. Chairman of the Judicial Service Commission, Chancellor Carl Singh, said that they will be looking for a replacement shortly.
His predecessor, Senior Counsel Doodnauth Singh, vacated office at the end of January after serving the profession for more than 55 years.
Singh submitted his resignation last December.
