As the West Indies plays England in the Digicel Series 2009, Windies wicketkeeper, Denesh Ramdin, shares his personal analysis of the 1st Digicel Test.
Denesh Ramdin:
Hi everyone, the build up to the 1st Digicel Test was really good. We had two good days of practice and everyone put in a huge effort. All the guys really want to do well.
Even though Chris lost the toss on the 1st day, he would have chosen for England to bat first had he won, so it worked out well for us. Taking into consideration that the outfield is heavy and the pitch is slow, that also worked well for us.
Ending the 1st day with England 236/5 was good and then coming back on the 2nd day and bowling them out just after lunch was really commendable. Benn bowled very well, he got four wickets (I think he should have gotten five). We had one or two dropped catches but we picked up well.
Chris and Sarwan are two of the best bats around so if they could get to 319 we’ll be able to pile on some runs and give England a good chase. We don’t want to be last chasing a huge total so the more runs we get in the 1st innings will be good.
Personally, I’m working really hard trying to support the guys and I have also been working on my batting. Once I get out there, I will be patient and try and build the score so we can really push England.
Looking at the England players’ body language, they seem to be relaxing and just waiting for something to happen. So I’m hoping Sarwan can keep them out there in the heat for as long as possible (They are used to the cold) so they will get tired by the time they come to bat.
But anything is possible on this pitch and you can never tell how it will go. It could be over early on the last day, or it could be over late the last day. You just never know. I must say the guys are really together on this Digicel Series. We’ve shown teamwork on and off the field. We have to continue working together and believing in our success.
England has some really good players like Pieterson, Flintoff and Panesar, so we just need to keep them off the pitch.
Stay tuned as I, and some of the other West Indies cricketers, keep you up to date on the Digicel Series 2009 through our diaries.
