A middle management police officer is being investigated for allegedly hosting a 12-year-old girl for two weeks in the barrack room of the Kamarang Police Station.
The cop’s scheme was exposed when the child’s father got information that she was at the police station, after she went missing for two weeks.
This newspaper understands that the officer was transferred to the interior location some time last year as part of a disciplinary measure resulting from a protest march in the city.
According to reports, the child disappeared from her home and a frantic search was launched throughout the village and surrounding areas.
The police station was the last place that the girl’s parents expected to find her, since despite news of the girl’s disappearance, no one there said anything.
However, the situation got unbearable for one of the ranks at the station and he decided to spill the beans.
On Monday, the child’s father visited the station and found his daughter there.
This newspaper was unable to ascertain if the child has been sexually molested.
According to a source, the policeman has offered to settle the matter by way of cash but the girl’s relatives have refused.
Instead they have contacted the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs. The Ministry has confirmed receiving the report and has mandated one of its officers to deal with the issue.
A senior police officer told this newspaper that a senior officer has been dispatched to the area to carry out extensive investigations. “This looks like a very serious offence,” the senior officer stated.
