The Kennard Memorial Turf Club will host a horse racing meet at its Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne Berbice facility on Sunday March 15. Organisers have promised heated action since some of the country’s best horses will be on show.
An exciting day is envisaged from the very first race right down to the feature attraction. This race in the ‘B’ and lower class will see jockeys and their mounts competing over 7 furlongs for a first prize of $375,000 and a second prize of $187,000. Third and fourth place finishers will receive $94,000 and $47,000, respectively.
The other event that has caught the imagination of Turfites is the 3 years Open which will also be contested over a distance 7 furlongs. The first jockey to cross the finish line will cart off $250,000 while the second place finisher will receive half that amount. The third and fourth places will receive $62,000 and $31,000 respectively. Other exciting races scheduled for that day is the ‘F’ and Lower Class, over 6 furlongs where the winner will receive $220,000 while the second place finisher will pocket $110,000. The third and fourth places will gallop away with $55,000 and $28,000, respectively.
Other races that will comprise the day’s proceedings are ‘H’ and Lower Class over 7 furlongs, K&L over 6 furlongs, I&J, over 6 furlongs and the ‘L’ Class for non-winners. Prizes in these categories range from $140,000 to $13,000.
Horse owners are reminded that all races are being run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority. Owners are also asked to pay a fee of $2,000 for each horse at the time of entry. Entries close on Saturday March 7 and the organisers say that no late entry will be accommodated. Registration can be done at telephone # 662-4668 and 325-3230.
