After being a faithful customer to Digicel for the past two years, businessman Mark Drakes has said that he is disappointed and dissatisfied with the company.
The man, who is an electrician, told Kaieteur News yesterday that he lost his Digicel Nokia cell phone on Tuesday, and after realizing that he could not retrieve it, he went into the company’s head office in Kingston on Wednesday and requested that he be given his number, since the phone was lost.
However, Drakes was told by an employee of the company that it would be impossible for him to get back his old number since he does not have the SIM Card Holder that each customer would get upon purchasing a Digicel phone.
The man said that it has been almost over two years now since he purchased the phone, and it is virtually impossible for him to find the card holder, which has a reference number on it.
He said that the employee asked him to submit at least ten to fifteen numbers that he would call on a regular basis and if six of the numbers are recognized by the company’s database, then he would be able to get his old number. Drakes said that he gave the employee ten numbers that he would call daily and of that number only five were recognized.
Since only five numbers were distinguished, Drakes noted that he was informed that he could not be given his old number.
The man said that he finds it strange since two of the numbers he submitted are those of his daughters, whom he would call every morning to tell them he is on his way to pick them up. The company’s database did not recognize those numbers.
Drakes said that he is an electrician and through the use of his cell phone, he would get a lot of work, since many persons have his number, and it would be difficult to get a new one.
“Almost all of my clients call me on that phone, and now that I can’t get back the number, it would only mean suffering for me, because I would lose a lot of work.”
Drakes added that although he gave his national identification card to the Digicel employee, it was useless.
