Reon King to head GCA senior selection panel

Thirty-three year-old former West Indies fast bowler Reon King will head the senior selection panel of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), while ex-Guyana first-class medium pacer Roddy Lovell is the chairman of the association’s youth panel.

King, who took 53 wickets from 19 Test, played the last of his 95 first-class matches in Jamaica two years ago and served as assistant Coach to the senior National team last year while the 36-year-old Lovell, who played two first-class matches for Guyana in 1998, is the Coach of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) cricket team.

The former national players were appointed to their positions last evening at which the Competitions, Cricket Development and fundraising committees were named.

A GCA official informed that the full selection committees will be named shortly after the GCA executive and the newly appointed heads of the two selection panels meet to come up with candidates for the position of GCA selectors.

Shawn Massiah will head the Competitions Committee while the other members of that committee are Secretary Teresa Pemberton, Andrew Lovell, Lindon Lyght and a representative from the Georgetown Cricket Umpires Council.
