Bishops’ eases past Marian Academy

Obviously the stronger team against weak opposition, Bishops’ High School eased pass a young Marian Academy line–up that showed clear room for improvement as their newly compiled team grows on the high school circuit.

As a fair–sized crew of school supporters among a sprinkling of other enthusiasts beamed on duo Tesrick Rambissoon and Wainright Haynes, they combined on the offence end of the Saint Stanislaus court to devastate Marian.
At the end of the game, Bishops compiled 45 points compared to Marian’s 25 points with Rambissoon and Haynes both contributing 16 each. Marian’s Taquain Vieira churned out a laudable performance with 18 points.
Though the game was not as competitive as Marian would have liked it was not an entire walkover as the Carifesta Avenue–based team showed resilience on occasion and even manage a few big crossover plays and shots.
Coordinator of Co–curricula Activities at Marian Academy, Chris Bowman told Kaieteur Sport that he was satisfied with the performance of the team that only had three practice sessions and one warm–up game so far.
“I am satisfied with our performance. If you put things into context, we were playing one of the best teams in Georgetown. They have more experience than us. My guys can only get better from game to game,” Bowman remarked.

He said that the team will continue to play as much as possible and even explore inviting teams to their facility for practice games. “We understand where we are building from,” the former Ravens basketball player said.
In addition, Bowman even boasted that his charges will reach the final eight in Saturday’s National Sports Commission Mashramani High School Tournament and the final four in the Schools’ Summer Basketball Festival.
“I am confident that within a year, we will be the number one basketball team,” Bowman told this newspaper, adding that he has a reputation of creating good teams to protect and he will not lose that reputation at Marian.
The three–day competition continues today at the President College (PC) court where the four East Coast schools in the tournament (PC included): Golden Grove, Cove and John and Bladen Hall Secondary will be challenged.
One of the student–coordinators of the School–Based Assessment (SBA) project, Esther Kursatte had indicated that the competition is part of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC) Physical Education (PE) Assessment.
Queens College was scheduled to play Saint Stanislaus College yesterday in game two but the school failed to show–up, which resulted in a walkover and the advancement of Saints to the next round of competition.
