A Guyana Floodlight select cricket team will be taking part in the Florida Cup 2009 softball cricket competition.
The team will be led by former national batsman/wicketkeeper Sheik Mohammed and includes some of the leading softball player in Guyana. The Florida Cup is a competition staged every year and attracts several top North American sides.
Last year a Guyana side lead by Reaz Husein, who will miss this year’s tournament for personal reasons, took part in the competition for the very first time. Even though they did not make it to the semi-finals, the players disclosed that they learned a lot from those games and are better prepared this time around despite the rainy weather.
The Floodlight team batting will depend heavily on captain Sheik Mohammed and the experience Ricky Deonarain along with Derick Ramoutar and Bedi Ramjewan, while their bowling department will be led by Ramchand Ragbeer and Rahaman Khan.
The rules from the Florida Cup are different from the regular competitions in Guyana. This year Florida Cup is schedule for the 6th, 7th and 8th of February and the final will be played at the spanking new cricket stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
The players representing the Guyana Floodlight team are Sheik Mohammed (Captain), Bedi Ramjewan (Vice Captain), Ganesh Singh, Kumar Chand Hardyal, Harishchand Ketwaroo, Gopaul Boojraj, Mohabir Dudnauth, Jailall Deodass, Drew Bahadur, Ramchand Ragbeer, Jaipaul Bharat, Pitamber Maharaj, Derick Ramoutar, Pradeep Abdul, Rahaman Khan, Ricky Deonarain, Armogan Gopaul, Unos Baksh.
