GRA transfers director, supervisor for failing to justify assets

Two senior officers and six other employees have been transferred from the Enforcement Section of the Guyana Revenue Authority.
Kaieteur News has learnt that, on Friday, Director Colin Moore and Supervisor Alvin Howard were transferred with immediate effect.
Also transferred are six others whose transfers will become effective from tomorrow.
Some of these will be taking up positions in the Value Added Tax (VAT) department and other departments within the GRA.
According to a source within GRA, Moore and Howard were transferred since they could not justify their assets during the probe into the Fidelity scam.
A decision has also been taken with immediate effect to have all examination officers removed from the wharves where they worked and have them report to the Lamaha Street branch of the GRA, rather, for orders on their daily postings.
This move, according to a GRA official, is to minimize the level of corruption within GRA.
According to the completed report into allegations at the GRA, the task force recommended that the organisation take the necessary disciplinary action against 15 of its senior staffers, who have all been found guilty of various offences.
The task force also recommended that relevant charges be instituted against the broker involved in the scam, Rajendra Rajcoomar, and his representative, Samantha Sam, for declaring false documents to the Customs and Trade Administration with the intention to defraud the state of substantial amounts of revenue in relation to Fidelity Investment/Kong Incorporated.
