-16 and under participation at C/ship to be discussed
Apart from the election of office bearers, a number of important issues will be dealt with when the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) holds its Annual General Meeting in the Boardroom of the Inter-American Institute for Co-operation on Agriculture, starting from 16:30 hrs.
According to President of the GNA Dr. Maxine Parris-Aaron, who is widely tipped to retain the post, some of the core issues slated to be discussed is the Work Programme for the year, the probable participation of the 16 and under females at the Caribbean Championship to be staged in Jamaica, the involvement of the GNA at the forum organised by Minster of Sport Dr. Frank Anthony in relation to the Sports Policy and the input by members of the GNA regarding the said Policy.
A report on the past year’s performance will also be presented.
Meanwhile, some of the plans earmarked in the 2009 programme include: the fostering, development and management of the sport throughout the country; the arrangement and management of tournaments at all levels (international, inter-association, inter-club); to uphold and maintain international rules of the game; maintain and enforce rules and regulations that govern the sport locally; facilitating the Court of Appeal for hearing and determining all cases of dispute and to decide all doubts and disputes in connection with the game and the rules and regulations hereof and to employ funds of the Association as shall be deemed to be in the best interest of the sport.
The GNA also outlined several objectives of the work plan that includes the facilitating of the all-round development of players, coaches and umpires; to continue the development of the sport through the improvement in the level of the game played here; to access the finances needed to support that development policy; to increase the membership of the Association and to promote the principles of the Healthy Lifestyles Programme in all members of the Association and to share them with other sportsmen and women.
