Starting Wednesday February 4th, Digicel and the West Indies Cricket Board will bring free live Cricket commentary of the Digicel Series 2009 where West Indies face England.
Digicel and the WICB, through Barbados-based company, Line & Length Inc, – owned by former Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation sportscaster Barry Wilkinson – will be delivering the radio commentary free to the radio stations across the Caribbean and streaming live via websites www.digicelcricket.com and www.windiescricket.com.
International sports commentator Andrew Mason is spearheading the panel along with Jonathan Agnew, Simon Crosskill, Fazeer Mohammed and Jack Matthew.
Cricket legends Sir Gary Sobers, Courtney Walsh, Curtley Ambrose, Colin Croft, Vic Marks along with Sir Vivian Richards will also form part of the panel for the four Digicel Tests, five Digicel ODI’s and one Digicel Twenty20 match.
Digicel Group Head of Sponsorship, Kieran Foley, explains the reason for the free broadcast: “Digicel and the WICB want to ensure that the people of the West Indies get live ball by ball commentary of their team against the English side. With free live radio coverage, more people can enjoy bigger and better cricket, and the fans can experience more than just a match.
“Last November Digicel financed the TV broadcast of the West Indies away games against Pakistan and provided it free to Caribbean stations. So this year, Digicel along with the WICB is happy to provide free radio commentary of the Digicel Series 2009 to cricket fans across the region.”
State of the art equipment and technology will be used to deliver the live broadcasts using Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) in addition to Samsung and Olympus recorders.
Stations in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Dominica, Guyana, Antigua, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Maarten and the Cayman Islands will be taking the commentary and airing the Digicel Series 2009 live starting Wednesday when the 1st Digicel Test bowls off in Jamaica.
