Coach Williams praises ‘A’ Team players

Coach David Williams has praised the West Indies “A” team players for their performance against England in the three-day first-class match at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
The young Windies excelled in the match making a huge 574-8 declared in the first innings. England replied with 414 all out and the “A” Team reached 16-0 in their second innings when the match finished yesterday.
In the West Indies “A” Team first innings, Lendl Simmons made a brilliant 282 while 18-year-old opener Adrian Barath scored 132. The pair added 262 for the second wicket. In the bowling department, pacer Kevin McClean took 3-56 and leg-spinner Gavin Wallace bagged 3-149.
“It was a very good performance and the player showed their ability. Simmons batted brilliantly…. it was a fantastic achievement to make his career-best score. He went about his innings in the correct way. He started slowly and when he got into his stride he took his chances. He never showed any signs of fatigue,” Williams said.
“Barath also batted well. That was also a fantastic effort in a very big partnership. The pitch was a flat one and the English bowlers tried their best but our batsmen showed the discipline and application needed to succeed.”
Williams said that he was also pleased with the way the team performed in the field.
“These guys were very keen and willing to play good, hard cricket. They bowled well and kept the pressure on. These are very good signs and the players should be proud of their performances.”
The first Digicel Test Match between West Indies and England bowls off on Wednesday, at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
