The Mayor and City Council of Georgetown are urging business owners to be on the lookout for a “con artist”. According to Public Relations Officer of the M&CC, Royston King, the “con artist” is going around using King’s name to solicit money.
King said that the con artist also tells the business owners that it is in their best interest that they give him the money, since it is for drainage works within the city.
The PRO hereby wants the public to know that City Hall is not soliciting any financial assistance from citizens to conduct any drainage works, or for any receptacles (garbage bins) in any part of the city of Georgetown.
King said that even if the Mayor and City Council wanted to do any works, “such are done from the rates citizens pay to our treasury.”
He said that, as a result, the council could never ask residents to pay any money to do things like drainage works, or to put down any refuse bins.
He is therefore urging all citizens that they should not acquiesce to the solicitations of the con artist.
Citizens are advised to call the City Constabulary whenever any individual making such requests visits their premises.
