Lee Pei Quang, a Chinese national who currently resides at Lot 93 Princes Street, Lodge, yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with intent to commit forgery.
It is alleged that the accused, along with a person or persons, conspired on February 20, 2004 to commit forgery by obtaining a forged work permit for him, with the evidence showing that it was issued by the Guyana Revenue Authority.
Lee pleaded not guilty. Present in court was the President of the Chinese Association, who acted as interpreter; Lee’s attorney, Khemraj Ramjattan, who said that his client has been living in Guyana for over two years now and has established a restaurant in the city.
He further said that Lee was not aware that the permit was forged, since the permit appeared to have been issued by the GRA.
The defendant was refused bail. His next court appearance is set for February 3, 2009.
