A re-migrant and his two sisters narrowly escaped serious injury at around 15:00 hrs yesterday after a truck hauling a container slammed into their vehicle near Diamond, on the East Bank Demerara Public Road.
The driver, Patram Mahadeo, of Alexander Village, sustained abrasions to the head while his sister, Loretta Mahadeo, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, sustained injuries to her legs.
They were treated at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
A third sister, Margaret Mahadeo, escaped unhurt. The vehicle in which the siblings were traveling was badly damaged.
A third car sustained minor damage when Mahadeo’s vehicle slammed into it after being hit by the truck.
Two of the Mahadeos said that they were too dazed to recall exactly how the accident occurred.
However, Margaret Mahadeo said that they were heading to her sister’s home at Grove, while the truck was heading in the opposite direction.
An eyewitness told Kaieteur News that he was standing on the road when he saw the truck “coming with a speed”, heading in the direction of Georgetown.
He said that shortly after, he heard “a blam” and then saw Mahadeo’s car “spinning on the road”.
Mahadeo’s out-of-control vehicle then slammed into another car.
The re-migrant told Kaieteur News that the car had been parked for ten years and he recently had it refurbished.
