The Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) heralded in a new Executive Committee following annual elections at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was held on Sunday last at the Guyana Olympic Association.
The AGM provided a welcome opportunity for the larger membership of the Federation to receive a report of the year’s activities from the outgoing President Mr. Frank Tucker, as well as the financial status of the Federation for the period January to December 2008.
In this regard the opportunity was also provided for the wider membership to share perspectives on the state of the sport of bodybuilding and the vision of the Federation for future.
This year’s Meeting saw the attendance of several new enthusiasts to the sport and to the business of administering the sport as well as several old faces who have supported the sport over the years.
During the discussions, the Meeting also took time to briefly outline possible strategic priorities for the Federation for the period January to December 2009, which included greater attention to resource mobilization activities to support the work of the Federation, development of a public education and information strategy, special focus on women in the sport of bodybuilding and governance issues within the Federation and its wider membership.
The new Executive Committee of the GABBFF will be headed once again by Frank Tucker who was returned as President by unanimous vote. Taking over the reigns as General Secretary is Anya Thomas.
Aretha Adams returns as Vice-President / Organizing Secretary while Fiona Harris also retained her position as Treasurer. Franklyn Brisport was elected Assistant Secretary/Treasurer.
The Committee Members are Sylvan Gardner, Olwyn Lynch, Keemo Fyffe, Prem Persaud, Sherlock Rigby, Marlon Bennett and John Campbell, all elected unopposed.
The Executive Committee is expected to convene its first meeting in early February to develop and agree on the work programme and budget for the Federation’s activities for this year.
Greater attention is expected to be paid to raising the profile of the sport in Guyana during this year.
