Commodore Gary Best was re-elected, unopposed to the helm of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) when that body held its Annual General Meeting at the Bank of Guyana Building, Avenue of the Republic, Wednesday evening last.
Attorney Richard Fields and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Paul Slowe were also re-elected unopposed to 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively, while Lt Colonel Terrence Stuart retained the position of Treasurer.
The Assistant Secretary Treasurer is Captain Lancelot Khan and the Honorary Secretary is Ryan Sampson. Mahendra Persaud retained the position of Fullbore Captain with Dylan Fields is his Vice Captain. The Smallbore Captain is Dale Hing and his Deputy is Joseph Singh.
The three former Committee Members, Ransford Goodluck, Hemant Narine and Mohamed Qualander also retained their portfolios. The Association’s auditors are Captain Samantha Chung and David Dharry.
Moments after his reinstatement, Commodore Best promised to dedicate his energies towards the construction of a clubhouse for the GNRA. He said that he would also endeavour to establish stronger bonds with rifle associations in other Caricom countries even as he aspires to encourage and strengthen women’s involvement in the sport.
Already, the GNRA has commenced its calendar of activities with the paint ball games at the YMCA, Thomas lands, Sunday last.
The riflemen would once again be in action on February 15, as the Fullbore section kicks off its activities.
Kaieteur Sport understands that this competition is in preparation of the National championships and the West Indies Fullbore championships 2009. Guyana is the current Regional Fullbore champions at both long and short range.
