The owner of Regent Multiplex, along with a network designer and electrical contractor were all charged yesterday in connection with the stolen transformer in November last.
The defendants were identified as Darwin ‘Davin’ Jones, 34, of 37 Camp and Croal Streets, Rakesh Sanchara, 36, of 83 Section C Enterprise, and Ganesh Ramlall, 42, of Lot C La Jalousie, West Coast Demerara. They were all placed on $400,000 bail after they made their court appearances before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It was alleged that between October 27 and November 17, last year, they conspired with persons unknown and stole one 300KVA transformer, property of Guyana Power and Light. They all pleaded not guilty.
Attorney-at-law James Bond, who represented Jones, said that his client had been in custody for three days and was later placed on $100,000 station bail. The lawyer added that his client had been reporting to the police station regularly.
The other two defendants were represented by attorney-at-law Hukumchand, who in a bail application said that his clients have no intention of evading the law.
The lawyer further told the court that Ramlall only came into the country Tuesday night and was informed 10:30hrs yesterday that he needed to be in court.
Hukumchand added that he himself was also informed at 10:30hrs about the court appearance.
The lawyer explained that Sanchara has been experiencing medical problems since yesterday. He added that both clients have no intention of not appearing in court because they are well known businessmen.
He said that Ramlall is the owner of the Regent Multiplex and has workers whom he has to look after.
The trio is expected to make another court appearance on February 4.
