A teenager from Buxton was yesterday charged for the 2005 murder of Franklyn Talbot, called “Cochore”.
The teen made his court appearance before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, without any family or social services representation. He was not required to plead since the charge was indictable.
He was remanded to police custody and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 5. The matter was also transferred to the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court.
The teen had admitted to killing Buxton resident Franklyn Talbot after he was picked up by police in a raid on Saturday.
Talbot, who was the stepfather of Teneisha Morgan, the reputed mother of Rawlins’s child, was defaced after his body was riddled with bullets.
The teen has also been linked to now dead gang leader Rondell “Fine Man” Rawlins. He has also confessed to several robberies.
The teen is also a relative of dead Buxton wanted man, Orlando Andrews, called “Bullet”, who was killed by the Joint Services ranks in October 2007. The teen also implicated Andrews in the killing of Talbot.
This newspaper was reliably informed that, in addition to the murder, the suspect told investigators about a robbery of a Brazilian miner in the interior, which was not reported to the police.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene had told the media that, despite the slaying of several gang members, the security forces will not let up, since there are other elements of the gang still on the loose.
He said that this has put a major dent in the criminal network, but it has not put end to crime in Guyana.
In addition to Rawlins and Charles, since October 2007, the security forces were able to kill gang members Malcolm Alleyne, called ‘Coolie Boy’; Aubrey Glasgow, called ‘Dread’; Noel James, called ‘Baby’; Orlando Andrews, called ‘Bullet’; Troy St. John, called ‘John I’; Vivian Harris, called ‘Bolo’; Otis Fifee, called ‘Mud Up’; Cecil Simeon Ramcharran, called ‘Uncle Willie’; and Robin Chung, called ‘Chung Boy’.
