The sale of tickets for the first two Digicel ODIs in Guyana began this week at the Guyana Cricket Board Office on Regent Road, Bourda where the ticket centre will be open for business between the 09:00hrs and 16:00hrs on weekdays.
The opening ODI is scheduled for the Guyana National Stadium at Providence on March 20 while the second ODI will be played at the same venue two days later. While six Super-Eight matches were played at the Providence stadium during the 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup, the last time West Indies played an ODI in Guyana (apart from their World Cup game against Sri Lanka) was in 2004 when they lost a nail biting rain-affected match against England at Bourda. Ramnaresh Sarwan made his debut as West Indies captain.
According to the GCB, tickets sales for the two ODIs in Guyana has not ‘picked up’ as yet with less than 100 tickets sold to date.
Once the series commences next Wednesday in Jamaica with the first Test, it is expected that sales will increase.
Tickets for the South/ West Stand for the games will cost G$5,000 while fans will have to pay $4,500 to enter the North / West Stand, $3,500 for the South West Stand and $1,500 for the grass mound which, despite having no seats, is usually the most popular area for spectators who want to enjoy the cricket and party-like atmosphere associated with the mound. The music system and drinks bars will be stationed in the grass mound area.
Meanwhile, ticket sales for the first Test next Wednesday at Sabina Park, are progressing steadily according to a highly placed Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) official.
The tickets, which range between $800 and $2,400 (Jamaica dollars) per day, depending on the nature of, and the class of the ticket, have been on sale for the last two weeks and generally are available at the game’s venue.
According to a JCA official, sales are progressing at a fair pace, with a least one cruise ship with passengers from England, as well as 100 spectators and crew from Bermuda, already confirmed.
The first Test, which is scheduled to end on Monday, February 9, will officially signal the start of the England tour, which entails four Tests, five one-day internationals, and a Twenty20 international.
The second, third and fourth Tests will be played in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, respectively, while Guyana and Barbados will host two of the one-day internationals each, and St Lucia the fifth and final. The Twenty20 international will be played in Trinidad and Tobago.
Tickets for the series, including the Guyana matches can also be purchased on-line on the West Indies Cricket Board website.
