– confesses to murder and robberies
One of the suspects held in last Saturday’s raid in Buxton was said to have been connected to the gang headed by the now dead Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins.
This suspect has reportedly confessed to one of the brutal murders in the village, and to several robberies.
Kaieteur News understands that the man has confessed to killing Buxton resident Franklyn Talbot, called ‘Cochore,’ in 2005.
Talbot, who was the stepfather of Teneisha Morgan, the reputed mother of Rawlins’s child, who disappeared without a trace early last year, was defaced after his body was riddled with bullets.
According to a source, the suspect is a relative of dead Buxton wanted man Orlando Andrews, called ‘Bullet,’ or Jeff, who was killed by ranks of the Joint Services in October 2007.
The source said that the man had also implicated Andrews in the killing of Talbot.
This newspaper was reliably informed that, in addition to the murder, the suspect told investigators about a robbery of a Brazilian miner in the interior, which was not reported to the police.
Crime Chief Seelall Persaud told this newspaper that the police had obtained information that the Buxton gang was remobilizing following significant gains by the Joint Services within the past 18 months.
Persaud said that the information received led to the raids on Buxton and other crime-prone areas last Saturday.
Police Commissioner Henry Greene had told the media that, despite the slaying of several gang members, the security forces will not let up, since there are other elements of the gang still on the loose.
According to Greene, the deaths of ‘Fine Man’ and ‘Skinny’ were by no means the end of the battle against the criminal gang which they reportedly headed.
In addition to Rawlins and Charles, since October 2007, the security forces were able to kill gang members Malcolm Alleyne, called ‘Coolie Boy’; Aubrey Glasgow, called ‘Dread’; Noel James, called ‘Baby’; Orlando Andrews, called ‘Bullet’; Troy St. John, called ‘John I’; Vivian Harris, called ‘Bolo’; Otis Fifee, called ‘Mud Up’; Cecil Simeon Ramcharran, called ‘Uncle Willie’; and Robin Chung, called ‘Chung Boy’.
They also killed Cliff Chichester, James Gibson and Cranston Gill during a shootout late last year in Berbice.
According to the Police Commissioner, there are currently in custody about 25 persons who were either a part of the gang or were in some way assisting them.
“The search is not over. We want to notify those additional gang members who are still out there that we have not given up the search. We are looking for several men,” Greene had stated.
He listed the remaining gang members as Deon Cort, called ‘Capone’; ‘Sonny’; Richard Daniels, called ‘Chucky’; ‘Not Nice’; White Boy, called ‘Whitey’; ‘Ratty,’ and Aubrey, among others.
