Police yesterday continued to question the prime suspect in the murder of South Ruimveldt pensioner Hector Fitzroy Marshall, even as an autopsy revealed that the 64-year-old man was manually strangled.
The suspect was arrested on Thursday in the wake of reports that he was seen in Marshall’s home.
Kaieteur News has confirmed that this suspect was also a prime suspect in the January 2004 murder of SIMAP Executive Secretary Lennox Stewart.
Stewart was found dead with his throat slashed in his Duncan Street home. Several items from his home were missing. The suspect was arrested and charged, but was freed following a preliminary inquiry.
Marshall, of Powis Close, South Ruimveldt Park, was found dead last week Monday with his hands tied behind his back and his mouth gagged.
Neighbours had speculated that Marshall, a former Personnel Officer of the Ministries of Information and Foreign Affairs, was slain after he had spoken about collecting a substantial amount of money from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
