Keith foster was returned unopposed as President of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) on Wednesday last when the club held their bi-annual elections at the Area ‘H’ Ground, Rose Hall Corentyne.
Long serving Secretary / CEO Hilbert Foster was also returned for his 6th two-year term while Franklyn Ross will serve his first term as Assistant Secretary / Treasurer having served in an appointed capacity following the death of Farouk Kudrath last year.
Dawn Hicks will serve her 3rd term as Treasurer while Keith Hicks is the Organising Secretary, Ravindranauth Kissoonlall is his deputy.
Moonish Singh was elected Public Relations Officer and also replaces Stanley Alexander as the Officer Manager.
The Committee Members are Sohan Harry, Bernadette King and Terry Pike.
Esuan Crandon will serve as captain while fellow national player Assad Fudadin will be his deputy for the first division team during the 2009 season.
At the 2nd division level, Michael Hicks (captain) and Ravi Narine (vice) were appointed. Eon Hooper (captain) and Terrence Madramootoo (vice) will be in charge of the under 19’s. Dominic Rickey (captain) Lionel Lewis (vice) for the under 17, while at the helm of the under 15 team is Shawn Pereira with his deputy being Neil Pike.
In charge of the females is Shermaine Campbell, Erva Giddings will be deputy.
Neville Beaton was elected Club Chairman, Franklyn Ross (Secretary) and Bridget McDonald Treasurer. The Committee Members are Elizabeth Brusche, Shirley Singh and Isabella Smartt.
Immediately following the elections, the executive body met and appointed several committees.
They were the educational, selection, charity, finance and public relations. Club Secretary / CEO Hilbert Foster heads the educational committee that includes Franklyn Ross, Neville Beaton, Renwick Batson and Greg Butcher.
Keith Hicks leads the selection committee with Kissoonlall, Moonish Singh and Esuan Crandon as the other selectors. Shirley Singh will chair the charity committee and will be assisted by Isabella Smartt, Bernadette King, Vee Fraser, Lucy Pike and Valda Cort.
Treasurer, Dawn Hicks heads the finance committee the members are Franklyn Ross, Bridgette Mc Donald and Sohan Harry.
PRO Moonish Singh is in charge of the public relations committee that includes Stanley Alexander, Lucy Fraser and Gregory Rambarran.
During the presentation of the 2008 club report, Secretary / CEO Hilbert Foster said the year was a challenging one for them but noted that they were still able to achieve positive developments. He said a total of 82 programmes and projects were achieved during the year under review.
And these included four major cricket tournaments, the annual awards ceremony, annual cricket academy, Republic Bank summer camp, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Basil Butcher Trust Funds, annual youth magazine, Youth Information Leaflet, $5M charity campaign, $10M anti-drugs and pro education campaign, mash children’s parade and tribute to outstanding students awards. Some of the major challenges faced by the club included the high monthly Guyana Power and Light bills, raising cost of sports gear and equipment and the attitude of young cricketers towards the game.
Among plans for 2009 unveiled were a career day fair in September, cricket tournament in memory of the late Farouk Kudrath and a tribute to outstanding teachers programme.
The Club’s Financial Report for 2008 was also presented and approved.
Members also discussed a wide range of topics including the reintroduction of membership fees for 2009, the Club’s 19th anniversary celebrations in May, the state of the Area ‘H’ ground, especially the cricket pitch and the club’s assistance to other NGO’s in light of the current economic challenges.
