A prime suspect has been arrested for the murder of 64-year-old pensioner Hector Fitzroy Marshall. The suspect was arrested yesterday in Georgetown by investigating ranks.
According to police sources, the suspect was arrested after he was seen in Marshall’s home prior to his death.
The source further told Kaieteur News that the same suspect was held before in another murder case a few years ago, but the case was dismissed in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court because of insufficient evidence.
Marshall was discovered dead at his Powis Close, South Ruimveldt Park home on Monday last.
Worried neighbours, on Monday, went calling for Marshall, and they discovered the man murdered at his home.
The former Personnel Officer was attached to the Ministry of Information, and was also once Personnel Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The pensioner was found with his feet and hands bound with pieces of clothing from his home. He was also gagged.
Neighbours had speculated that the pensioner may have been killed after he had spoken about collecting a substantial amount of money from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
They rebuffed the claim that Marshall would keep substantial cash in the home. One neighbour told Kaieteur News that Marshall had told them that he was waiting for the money to accumulate, so that he could use it to repair his house.
A post mortem is scheduled for today.
