Dear Editor,
My concern is in respect to the above mentioned school. For approximately five years now, this educational institution has been utilising a shift system to facilitate overcrowding.
This shift system was put in place by the then Minister of Education, Dr. Henry Jeffery, who had promised to build a bigger school to accommodate the students attending this said institution. Up to date, no progress has been made in regard to this situation.
It is so heartrending to see our young people liming on every corner, some of them gambling, getting themselves involved in all kinds of unlawful acts, when they should be in school getting an education.
Moreover, there are no after school programmes whereby these young people can get involved to spend this extra time doing something productive.
In closing, I would be grateful if the Minister of Education, Mr. Shaik Baksh, would look at this situation as a matter of urgency. Our future is in the hands of these young people; they are the leaders of tomorrow, and if we don’t prepare them for the future, we would have failed as a civil society.
