The Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) will commence its programme of activities for the year with the GASP Open championships at the Malteenoes Sports Club on Sunday February 1.
GASP Public Relations Officer Abigail McDonald disclosed that the executive has met recently to discuss the Association’s itinerary for the year. She said that there will be a few overseas engagements, but disclosure pertaining to the dates and places will be done at a Fun Day arranged by GASP to be held at the Court’s Sports Club this Sunday morning.
The Public Relations Officer said that the complete itinerary for the year including planned overseas engagements would be announced at the function on Sunday. Several of the country’s top scrabble players will be resuming efforts to retain their prestigious spots notwithstanding the keen competition witnessed last year.
Players, the likes of James Krakowsky and Floyd Carmichael have had a remarkable season last year and will be looking to resume the tempo.
However, they will be wary of players like banker, Paul Adams, the East Coast crew, Curtis Liverpool and Winslow Jacobs, Lindener, Grace Hercules and Yvonne Murray, all good players on their day.
National Champion, Fred Collins will be hard pressed to retain his title when one notes the improved level of performances of these and other players.
While the competitions may be foremost on the players’ mind, their main focus will be to herald in the new season while dining and generally fraternizing at the Club.
They will also indulge in a few friendly games. Starting time is 10:00hrs.
