Dear Editor,
Amidst the euphoria of Barak Obama’s inauguration, I remain depressed over the state of our cricket.
In our first match against the Windward Islands, we were defeated by an innings and only this week defeated by nearly 100 runs by the Combined Campuses and Colleges, two of the supposedly weaker teams.
What has really happened to our cricket? Were there not signs that the situation was deteriorating, and if so, what did we do about it?
It cannot be for a lack of funds and resources. The Cricket Board is one of the best supported Sporting Organisations in the country. They benefit from millions of dollars of sponsorship from various companies. They also received millions from Stanford to pay coaches and develop facilities and buy equipment. It has to be more than money and if it is not money, it has to be people.
After nearly twenty (20) years of the same person at the helm, the Cricket Board surely needs fresh ideas and new leadership. We cannot continue like this. The Status quo must change and new leadership must be ushered in.
Yours faithfully
Depressed cricket fan
