Patrick DeWeever, 40, of 200 ‘R’ Bend-Kirton Court, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and the mother of his child, Viola Monic, 37, of 4270 Independence Road, Georgetown, yesterday appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson charged with assaulting each other.
On January 11 last, at West Ruimveldt, the accused DeWeever allegedly assaulted Monic. She, in turn, allegedly assaulted him as well.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Monic who was previously employed at the bar called ‘Corner Kick’, and is currently unemployed, was represented by her attorney, Omiyana Hamilton, who said that her client is the mother of a 15-year-old daughter, who is currently staying with her grandmother.
The lawyer asked that Monic be granted bail at a reasonable sum.
DeWeever told the magistrate that he didn’t want the mother of his child to pay a fine; he just wanted a restraining order against her.
“Your Worship, I don’t want this woman close to me or my business. On the day in question, she attacked me at my business; she even damaged my car, my family’s car.”
And as he was stating his side of the story, the magistrate asked Monic what she wanted to say about what happened.
The woman said that DeWeever, on many occasions, beat and threatened her.
“Your Worship, at one time, this man had even fractured my arm.”
Magistrate Robertson placed DeWeever on $20,000 bail, and ordered him to return to court on February 26. Monic was also released on bail.
