The police have not yet arrested anyone for the murder of 64-year-old pensioner Hector Fitzroy Marshall, according to police sources.
The source further told Kaieteur News last evening that the police are desperately following leads that may result in the capture of the murderer.
The pensioner was discovered dead in his Lot 362 Powis Close, South Ruimveldt Park home on Monday morning after worried neighbours went calling for the man.
Marshall, a former Personnel Officer attached to the Ministry of Information, and later Personnel Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy in the Institute of Adult and Continuing Education, and the holder of other posts in the public service, was found with his feet and hands bound together with pieces of clothing from his home. He was also gagged.
Neighbours had been calling for Marshall for about an hour, before sending a young child to check on him.
The child, Jason Jordan, immediately after going up the stairs, saw that the “house keys” were still in the door and that the door was ajar. The boy went inside the house, and searched around the home after checking Marshall’s bedroom and discovering that he was not there.
Marshall was later found in a back bedroom of his home with his feet and hands bound together with pieces of clothing. Neighbours also speculated that the pensioner may have been killed after he had spoken about collecting a substantial amount of money from the National Insurance Scheme (NIS).
They rebuff the claim that Marshall would keep substantial cash in the home. One neighbour told Kaieteur News that Marshall had told them that he was waiting for the money to accumulate, so that he could use it to repair his house.
