The police are making efforts to transfer from Enachu to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation a break-and-enter suspect who was shot during a confrontation with a rank at Enachu.
The suspect needs further medical attention.
The man was shot when he reportedly attacked a police rank with a knife, at around 21:00 hours on Sunday.
According to the police, an armed police rank from the Enachu Police Station responded to a report received of break and enter committed on a shop in the vicinity.
On arrival at the scene, the rank observed that the shop was closed but several boards had been removed from the northern wall.
The rank shone his torchlight into the building and observed a person moving around inside.
A statement from police headquarters said that the rank called on the person to surrender and to come out, but got no response.
After a while, the policeman decided to go into the building.
On entering the shop, the rank was attacked by a man armed with a knife, causing the policeman to use force, resulting in the suspect being shot and injured.
The injured man, who has been identified as Andrew Alphonso Wilson, 19, of Friendship, Pomeroon, was found to be in possession of a quantity of cash and jewellery.
He was initially admitted a patient at the Kurupung Medical Centre.
