– jumps ahead of GABA League
The Linden Amateur Basketball Association’s (LABA) Pioneer Construction–sponsored
Senior Club Basketball Championship continued last night with a doubleheader at the Mackenzie Sports Club basketball court.
Alleyene’s Retrieve Raiders and Patriots contested the first game while the second game brought together Glands Trucking Service Bulls and present national first division championship holders, Wismar Pistons.
Raiders will be in action again tonight against New Ballers while the Jets soar against the Glands’ Trucking team in the highlight encounter. Jets take on Royals while Patriots challenge Pistons in tomorrow night’s games.
After the completion of the first round, the unbeaten Victory Valley Royals are leading in the points standing with six points from three wins including one over the second placed Wismar Pistons that has five points.
Patriots are currently third with three points from a win and loss while the Amelia’s Ward Jets, New Ballers and Glands Trucking Service Bulls are on two points each, sharing the bottom of the LABA League points table.
The LABA has warned that teams should be reminded to observe all regulations and rules of the tournament and be on time for their games. ‘Walkovers’ will be given against those teams that fail to be on time for games.
The commencement of the LABA League meant that the Linden association has jumped ahead of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) in recommencing the standard and developmental Leagues.
GABA Secretary, Robert Cadogan had told Kaieteur Sport earlier that they are awaiting ‘good’ weather before they continue their League but it is still not clear exactly when the League will resume in the City.
