Micobie Amerindian Council recently received $3M worth of equipment from the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Region Eight (Potaro/Siparuni).
A new 15-horsepower Johnson outboard engine and a 20-foot aluminium boat were also handed over to Toshau, Majuna Edwards, last week Thursday.
Present at the ceremony were Regional Chairman, Senor Bell, and members of the Micobie Amerindian Village Council.
Mr. Bell, in a brief presentation, called on the Village Council to pay keen attention to any assistance given to the village and to ensure the proper care and custody of the boat and engine is maintained.
He called on the council to render as much assistance as possible to the newly constructed Health Outpost, and the school.
The Regional Chairman said that the boat and engine are to be used to supplement the tedious and dangerous trips that are sometimes taken to facilitate the movement of drugs, other medical supplies and books and other educational material from Mahdia to Micobie, noting that especially now, with the incessant rainfall and the deterioration of the roadway, the roadway poses a danger to life, limbs and machinery. The boat and outboard engine should be used to assist in the movement of personnel and materials between Micobie and Tumatumari.
According to Mr. Ishwar Dass, Regional Executive Officer, the handing over of the boat and engine is indicative of the thrust for development and a keenness for enhancing the ability of the people to perform even better.
Micobie is found on the right bank of the Potaro River about 27 miles from Mahdia. The inhabitants are Patamona, and depend mainly on mining and farming for their livelihood.
