‘Big Truck’ confident of regaining world title
Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite
Former World Boxing Council (WBC) cruiserweight champion Wayne ‘Big Truck’ Braithwaite has broken into the top ten of the two major world governing boxing entities while he enjoys a #14 rating in another. The former cruiserweight champion is very confident that he will regain his championship belt he lost to Jean Marc Mormeck, in the near future.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) and the International Boxing Federation presently rates the former cruiserweight king at numbers 5 and 7 respectively. The champions are Herbie Hyde of Great Britain and Thomas Ademeck of Poland.
The lanky fighter who returns to New York sometime today disclosed that he is back in Guyana to deal with personal family matters and upon his return to his adopted home, he will intensify training sessions in preparation for an elimination bout against B J Flores sometime next month. Should he be successful, Braithwaite informed that he has been assured of a more respectable ranking in the International Boxing Federation (IBF). During his one week visit here the former world champion has opted for some light work at the Andrew ‘Sixheads’ Lewis Boxing Gym in Albouystown, under the tutelage of local boxing trainer, Maurice ‘Bizzy’ Boyce.
Quizzed on his activity in New York Braithwaite revealed that he is currently engaged in light training sessions at the Jackie Gleason’s Boxing Gym, Front Road, Brooklyn NY in preparation for the upcoming bout.
Braithwaite who has had more than his fair share of managerial and trainers’ problems said that the situation in these departments is more improved allowing him to concentrate on boxing related matters.
He said that his mother is still functioning as his manager but she has given more leverage to Stan Hoffman, a veteran in this department that had piloted numerous boxers including William Joppy and Hasim Rahman to world titles. To date Hoffman has succeeded in securing world titles for a number of his charges who have won 38 world titles in total. As such, Braithwaite is confident that his association with the veteran manager will produce fruits.
