Dear Editor,
Ms. Burton and the TUC are not purposeful. The President New Year’s Message said they are disappointed they did not achieve trade union unity in 2008. Can Ms. Burton and the GTUC give any assurance on this issue? When you bring GAWU, NAACIE and others back to the TUC and people decide to strike against this hard-nose government, will GAWU and NAACIE join you or walk out of the TUC again?
The TUC is complaining about the government’s disrespect for them and workers, and at the same time are asking suffering workers to cooperate with the government that is inflicting pain on them. Non-cooperation with evil is a sacred duty, according to Ghandi.
VAT, flood waters, no jobs and poor wages are killing workers and the TUC is focusing on trade union unity with government unions that want to break them up.
The TUC should mobilise around real problems which are affecting the people. Do not expend scarce time focusing on unity with GAWU, NAACIE and others. Focus on the problems that are important to the pauperized workers.
