Dear Sir,
Apart form the annual Kashif and Shanghai KO tournament, which has since become the nation’s leading football tournament in terms of prestige, publicity, attendance and administrative capabilities among other issues. The annual Mayor’s Cup and more recently the Namilco football festival KO; Sweet 16 KO and the Alpha United summer festival have all come along as promotional/developmental tournaments.
And it would only be prudent for Bilaal Nantambu to pose some, if not all of the questions he is asking in his letter captioned “ Some Questions on the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation” Published in KN, 09.01.07 to the other organisers/Coordinators! Mr. Editor, when all is said and done the proof of the pudding remains in the eating.
However, since the brother’s claim of being in Guyana for the last 13 years, maybe he is not au-fait of instances when participating clubs use to receive a percentage of the net gate receipts; Balls and more recently financing for perpetrations, which as recent as last year amounted to $200,000 GYD per club compliments of His Excellency, President, Bharat Jagdeo, Since entrance fees were eliminated.
While not foregoing Tucville Primary receiving 4 footballs when Fruta Conquerors won its first title in 2002-2003, and what about the hundreds of school children on a yearly basis in Linden, that receive free tickets for Entry at M.S.C Compliments of the Organisers?
Finally, name one privately organised tournament in the world that is on par with Guyana in relation to FIFA rankings that would attract a scout/agent seeking players for major contracts? However, from all indications hindsight rather than foresight was utilized by the writer, since if he was keeping abreast with the tournament’s updates he would have known for the 20th Anniversary a Secondary school’s Competition will be played.
Meanwhile in the final analysis, Nantambu should use the appropriate forum at the dormant coaches association to make meaningful representation on behalf of his fellow peers. In addition to fully comprehending that the development of the sport, hinges on the GFF who receives USD $250,000 annually from FIFA for development. And also receives the largest single amount of “levy fees “from the K&S Organisation among all the other tournaments promoters/coordinators.
Surely, Islam Cares! That the humanity of man should not be discriminated against with in the context of the individual’s out burst in 2007 at the GFC ground, Bourda, Georgetown V/S West Demerara in a GFF under -17 inter-association match, when he told a West Demerara player “Tackle him hard he does not eat meat.”
In reference to national under-17 player Joshua Kamal, who had brought glory to Guyana, scoring the lone goal in the nation’s win enroute to the Semi-finals of a CFU under-17 tournament, of which he was a member of the coaching staff.
Does this individual qualify to honestly offer a public comment on the K&S organisation’s operations with his relevant unprofessionalism?
Regards
Lester Sealey
