Dear Editor,
Like all Guyanese, I share a deep sense of disappointment over the performance of our senior team in the recent match against the Windward Islands.
During the 70’s, 80’s and even the early 90’s, Guyana fielded a first class team that gave a good account of itself, however over the past eight (8) years or so, our performance has progressively declined and the last time we won the senior four day competition was in 2002.
Despite this poor showing, we have kept faith with our Management Team of Mr. Carl Moore and Mr. Albert Smith and we have stumbled from one failure to another.
I feel that unless there is a radical overhaul of Guyana’s cricket, and I don’t mean the dismissing of the Manager and Coach because there are more systemic problems affecting our cricket, then we will continue to be at bottom or near the bottom of the cellar in the points tally at the end of tournaments.
Guyana needs to examine the whole operations of the Board, to have a structure in place that can move the cricket forward. I think we have a tired bunch, many of whom have out lived their usefulness and I think that the time for change is now.
We need to rescue Guyana’s Cricket.
Unhappy Cricket fan
