The West Indies Cricket Board level 1 Coaching Course concluded recently at the Guyana National Stadium with 24 participants.
During the Course, which lasted for five days, participants were thought about the basics of batting, bowling, fielding wicketkeeping, captaincy and bio-mechanics among other topics.
One of the facilitators, Jamaican Phillip Service, expressed his satisfaction with the Guyanese turnout.
He urged the participants to pass on their knowledge to the youngsters in their community so that the West Indies can return to the pinnacle of world cricket for that is one of his dreams.
Former West Indies fast bowler Kenneth Benjamin conducted the fast bowling session, while another former West Indies cricketer, Colin Stuart, spoke about Diet and fitness and Michael Hyles assisted with wicketkeeping.
Former West Indies U-19 player, Barbadian Wendell Coppin, talked about bio-mechanics but unfortunately he had to return to Barbados because of an emergency.
Participants were given a written exam and they also had to undergo a practical evaluation where they had to demonstrate the different types of cricket skills which included batting, bowling, fielding and wicketkeeping.
They were also required to teach a specific skill to a few youngsters on the final day.
Among the participants were former Guyana and West Indies B team player Rabindranauth Seeram, former West Indies U-19 captain Andre Percival, former Guyana off spinner Garvin Nedd, national pacer Trevon Garraway, Physio Kenrick Lewis and Oswald Waldron and Zaheer Mohamed. (Zaheer Mohamed)
