A Sophia woman who is accused of killing her Barbadian lover was remanded to prison when she appeared before a magistrate at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Tramangra Williams, of South Sophia, appeared before Magistrate Yohannseh Cave on a charge of murder allegedly committed on Barbadian national Tyrone Best. Best died on January 3, 2009 at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
A post mortem examination performed yesterday by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan revealed that Best had died from haemorrhage and shock due to stab wounds to his liver, which he sustained on December 27 last year.
The woman had initially reported that Best, 42, a Sales Manager of the Sheraton Mall, St. Michael, Barbados, had been stabbed by bandits and relieved of $9,000 on December 27 last, just a few yards from the house they were occupying in Sophia.
The woman had claimed that last December 27, at about 17:30 hours, Best left the home to purchase cigarettes at a nearby shop. A few minutes later, she heard him calling out to her, and upon peering out, she saw Best clutching his abdomen as blood covered his clothes.
The woman told police that Best had claimed that two men had attacked him and robbed him of $9,000 after stabbing him in his abdomen.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was admitted.
The following day he was discharged, but complained of pain in his abdomen a day later. He was taken back to the hospital and was re-admitted, but succumbed to his injuries a few days later.
However, this report was made only after Best had succumbed from a single stab wound to his abdomen.
This fact had aroused the suspicion of the investigators, who were not convinced by her story, and the 22-year-old woman was detained and interrogated.
She later changed her story and reportedly told detectives that Best had accused her of having a relationship with another man.
Williams, who was unrepresented by counsel, is to make her next court appearance on January 27.
