Guyanese Parasurama Rabindranauth, 26, who was held by law enforcement officers in Florida when he tried to board a plane to return to Guyana following the murder of Michael Sembhudyal, 38, in Waterbury, Connecticut, has been charged with murder and is being held on a US$1 million bond.
Rabindranauth is said to have appeared in the Waterbury Superior Court.
The murder accused was arrested when he tried to board a flight from the Miami-Dade International Airport to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana. The arrest was made without incident, as the man did not put up any resistance when he was detained.
Apparently, Rabindranauth’s passport had been marked by US authorities, and they were alerted when he booked the air ticket.
Reports have said that Rabindranauth shared a relationship with Sembhudyal’s cousin for approximately six years before they separated.
The parting led to an ongoing dispute over monies which had apparently been spent on real estate.
According to reports from the Connecticut police, on the day of the murder, Rabindranauth and Sembhudyal had an argument, which escalated to the point where Rabindranauth fatally shot Sembhudyal once in the chest.
After the shooting, it is alleged, Rabindranauth drove from Waterbury to the borough of Naugatuck, in Connecticut, where he got rid of his vehicle and then travelled to New York with a relative, where he boarded a bus to Miami.
