Leave today for Singapore
Experienced Swimming Coach Joanne Lowe leaves Guyana today to attend the First FINA World Swimming Coaches Conference which takes place in Singapore from January 15 – 17 at the Marina Mandarin Hotel.
Lowe, who recently became the second Guyanese to become a FINA Accredited Referee, Charles Corbin being the first, has been a coach for the past 14 years and is currently coaching at the Dorado Speed Swim Club.
This inaugural conference has been as a result of the great success of FINA and swimming competitions at the Olympic Games Beijing 2008.
The World Governing Body executive, guests of the International Olympic Committee, coaches from all FINA Member Federations which total 197, organising committees of FINA World Championships and FINA Partners will all attend this event.
FINA’s Strategic Plan, Marketing Opportunities, Television Development and the World Swimming Calendar 2009 – 2013 will all be presented. The main focus however, will be on coaching.
Lowe said based on the programme sent, the conference will be hectic and exciting.
“I know that as a developing nation we will be able to tap into a wealth of information that will help in our development here.” (Franklin Wilson)
