Player-transfers and education, coaches’ development among priorities
The controversy surrounding the outstanding delivery of gate receipts by Tagman Services is now in the hands of Auditors Jack Ali & Sons according to President of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Colin Klass.
Klass made this announcement during an exclusive interview with Kaieteur Sport recently where he disclosed that the Federation’s attempt to settle the issue amicably was not successful therefore the General Council made a decision to contract the Firm in an effort to arrive at the outstanding figures and hopefully get the matter resolved.
The GFF Head had said in an earlier interview that the Federation was bounded by FIFA’s policy which discourages the use of the courts to resolve certain issues, adding that they had felt that to go in that direction could further damage the image of the sport here.
Tagman Services was recruited to handle the ticketing and other related financial aspects of Guyana’s return clash against Suriname in the World Cup qualifiers which was played at the Guyana National Stadium.
According to sources, the unaccounted figure is touted to be in the vicinity of $7million.
Meanwhile, the President also addressed the thorny issue of players’ transfers which he referred to a real problem.
“We’ve been having a number of problems in this area and we intend to implement the Transfers Regulations as mandated by FIFA,” Klass said.
He added that the rules will be applied as it ought to, while more reliable record keeping will be done to have accurate information about a player’s movement at all times.
Klass disclosed that FIFA’s laws in relation to transfers clearly states that all clubs responsible for a player’s development must benefit from the transfer on a pro-rated basis, meaning the years spent at respective clubs will be taken into account.
Among other topics discussed was the priority that will be given to the development of coaches including their licensing at all levels.
Training of administrative staff and the education of players are also part of the list of activities planned by the GFF for the year.
“I am not saying that we will complete all these projects within the year, but at least a start will be made with the intention of seeing it to the end,” he mentioned.
