Dear Sir,
I refer to an article captioned “Dealers concerned over Sol’s high priced Kerosene” and wish to add my comments as follows:
Firstly it is really sad to read of one Mr. Figaro comments because the kerosene was acquired at a higher cost it has to be sold at the astronomical cost of $1127 per gal as against the regular price of $480 to $500 per gal. What justification can there be for this?
Is the consuming public aware that there is no C-TAX on Kerosene? How then can the price be higher than that of diesel or gasoline? Is Figaro aware that Kerosene is used by the poorest of the poor in Guyana? I guess not, as he was just returning from his Christmas vacation. I wonder how many of the Kero-based poor consumers had a good Christmas without any kerosene to cook with.
The Government of Guyana and the Consumer Association need to take a serious look into this.
Figaro’s claim that it will take years to reclaim the losses if he was to sell at a cheaper price is nothing more than rubbish.
Kerosene forms the smallest volume of all the products that Sol sells so that the loss if any would have been minimal. Now that Texaco has brought in supplies, will Figaro continue to hoard his supplies or will he now put in on the market? Whatever he does the harm is already done.
The Government of Guyana must seriously examine whether they want to continue to have a non national head such as a critical entity which can impact on the lives of the poor in this country. Do you honestly think that a Guyanese can do such a thing as a Caricom country and get away with such stupidity?
Wake up Guyanese and decide who you want to support at the gas pumps. Decide now who is your friend in need and who is there to exploit you.
