Students of the South Ruimveldt Primary are staying home from school until further notice, due to flooding in the area.
The students were told to stay home as of Thursday. Kaieteur News was told that the school was yesterday awaiting a visit from a team from the Ministry of Health, but the team never arrived.
The team was expected to carry out an inspection of the school’s premises which were covered with flood waters.
A source said that it is still not clear when the school will be reopened.
This newspaper has, however, learnt that on Monday the situation will be assessed, and it will be determined when the school will be reopened.
In the meantime, concerns have been raised over the students being out of school. Persons have raised concern about the students who are preparing for the Grades Six and Two examinations.
The school is expected to discuss alternative measures to ensure that the students are not left behind in their curriculum.
This the school will consider seriously, since the rainy season is expected to continue over the next few weeks and the South Ruimvledt area is prone to flooding.
