–2008 described as quiet but productive
The Haynes Basketball Foundation (HBF) described last year as quiet but yet productive when the New Jersey–based Nonprofit Corporation that help facilitate the development of local basketball, released its 2008 report.
Following is the edited text of the document, which was sent to Kaieteur Sport earlier this week for publication.
The Haynes Basketball Foundation, a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation 501(c) (3), has completed another successful year in fostering the development of quality basketball and raising the awareness of the sport in Guyana.
During the 2008 fiscal year, HBF had a quiet but productive year; we collaborated with the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) in facilitating the Guyana junior national men and women’s teams.
Those teams were to compete in the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) contests that were cancelled due to CBC’s untimely announcement of the new age limit for junior players (under–16 as opposed to the previous under–19).
At the Annual Guyana Day event held at the Performing Arts Center, York College, New York, HBF saw much success in raising the awareness of the development of basketball, education and sports in Guyana.
In efforts to strengthen our support in sports, education and AIDS prevention, HBF partnered with the Philadelphia Chapter of the Pinochle Bugs Social Civic Club and the US Chapter of the Port Mourant Training Center Alumni Association.
In efforts to teach the fundamentals of basketball to youths in Guyana, HBF procured and donated sixty Basketball Coaching DVDs to the GABF and its sub–associations: the GABA, LABA and BABA.
Those DVD’s included: 20 Man–to–Man Offence and Defense DVDs; 20 Zone Offence, Defence and Inbound Plays DVDs and 20, 48 Championship Basketball Drills DVDs donated to the GABF for distribution.
HBF board members organised a clothing drive to help clothe the families of Carrefour, Haiti, that hurricanes Hanna, Gustav and Fay affected. The people of Haiti and HBF are grateful to all those who contributed.
