After being on the run for some three weeks, Compton Aaron, who was wanted by police, was captured on January 3, last, and charged with attempted murder of his wife and two children.
Reports are that the 44-year-old suspect was placed before the court on Monday last at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court where he appeared before Magistrate Thajnarine Ramroop.
Aaron allegedly attempted to torch his wife, Ann Simon, and his sons Osafo and Prince on December 18, last year.
The charges were indictable and Aaron was not required to plead.
He has been remanded and is expected to make his next court appearance on February 5.
On December 18 last in the early hours of the morning, the man allegedly sneaked into the home of his estranged reputed wife, Ann Simon, and set her alight after dousing her with gasoline.
The couple’s two children, Osafo and Prince Todd, who were asleep on the floor also sustained burns and had to be hospitalised along with their mother at the Fort Wellington Hospital.
Simon sustained severe burns to her chest while the two children’s feet were badly scorched.
The woman had recalled a life of beatings at the hands of the suspect who she said is reluctant to maintain his children.
A few months ago, the couple was engaged a bitter fight during which the suspect brutally assaulted Simon, causing her severe injuries to her face.
